Attention Mobile Users: The index has been suppressed, and the table is wider than most screens.  To see notes on any given DVD, pan right or put your phone in landscape mode.

Welcome to the only complete listing of USA audio described commercial videos!
This is a USA-only listing, and Canadians sometimes find DVDs listed here do not have description in Canada.

2011 continued the uptrend of a dramatic increase in the number of DVDs released with audio description.  As a reminder, Universal did not commit to description on RENTAL versions (until July 2012).  You can follow future announcements as they occur via our Facebook page.

Below you will find a list of all the described DVDs released in the USA in 2011 of primarily first-run movies in order of DVD release date, most recent first.  (A few special releases, not first-run movies, are also included.)  Most of them are available via Amazon, and we urge you to make your purchase via a click-through from this website to help support the cost of the website.

Please pay attention to notes with cautions (in this color) regarding which versions of the DVDs may or may not have description.  The older ones rarely say anything about description on the covers, while most of the new ones do (typically under Languages as "DVS" or "English Audio Description Track").  Rental versions are sometimes the "Director's Cut," which typically does not include description, nor typically do unrated versions.  Be sure to order the theatrical version, and be sure to order via Amazon, not their Marketplace sellers.  Generally, the Blu-ray versions of DVDs listed here since the fall of 2009 also have description.

In Hyung's world ... the future is a dystopian nightmare still reeling from centuries of conflict between humans and vast armies of slimy, humanoid vampires; having been saved (or so we're told) by fierce and noble warrior priests, people now live in a great, grim city that makes the Los Angeles depicted in Bladerunner look like a vacation resort, while the remaining vampires have been consigned to "reservations" in the desert. A few hardy souls subsist out in the barren wilderness as well, and the fun starts when a gang of vamps attacks one family... -- Sam Graham

Paul, starring Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, and Seth Rogan (2011) Not Rated

The premise Pegg and Frost have laid out for themselves as likable, sci-fi fanatic supernerds is a dream vacation starting at Comic Con, then continuing through the American Southwest in an RV visiting historic UFO sites like Area 51, the Black Mailbox, and Roswell, and finishing up at Devil's Tower in Wyoming, the iconic centerpiece from Close Encounters of the Third Kind. After their inauspicious start, they happen upon an escaped alien who is 4 feet tall, and has the big head, classic diamond eyes, and features we've come to recognize as both the benevolent and evil kinds of space aliens from movies and TV. He is also the titular character, and as voiced by Seth Rogen, this CGI creature spouts a never-ending string of wisecracks, insider secrets, and frat-boy humor that comes loud and clear as classic Rogen in tone and attitude...  -- Ted Fry

Your Highness, starring Danny McBride, James Franco, Natalie Portman (2011) Not Rated

The medieval spoof Your Highness ...  undeniably hilarious at times ... [begins] with an admirably tasteless gallows gag, the story follows a drunken, craven lout (McBride...) who teams up with his more heroic, destined-to-be-king older brother (Franco) to rescue a damsel fair (Zooey Deschanel) from an unprintable fate by an evil sorcerer (a very funny Justin Theroux). Along the way, they stumble across a love-struck Minotaur, a village of bloodthirsty women, and a beautiful ninja type sworn to vengeance (Natalie Portman)...  --Andrew Wright

Soul Surfer, starring AnnaSophia Robb and Dennis Quaid (2011) Rated PG

The life of Bethany Hamilton, a promising amateur Hawaiian surfer who overcame a crippling shark attack at age 13 to succeed on the pro circuit, would likely make for a compelling, inspirational cinematic experience even if it consisted of a voice-over recounting her story on a blank screen. The actual film may stay firmly within the standard safe sports underdog movie guidelines ... but Hamilton's incredible strength and spirit still manage to shine through, aided by a terrifically appealing lead performance by AnnaSophia Robb... She does her real-life inspiration proud, even if the film surrounding her sometimes feels overly scrubbed. -- Andrew Wright

Battle: Los Angeles, starring Aaron Eckhart and Michelle Rodriguez (2011) Rated PG-13

Battle: Los Angeles is a war movie first, science fiction second. It's got it all: a burned-out retiring sergeant who gets drawn back in because, dammit, the Marines need him; the guy who's about to get married; the guy who's still a virgin; the guy suffering from shell shock and who just might crack; the newbie officer with a lot of book learning who you just know is going to freeze under pressure and have to be shepherded by that burned-out sergeant, who learned his lessons on the battlefield ... and so much more. There's not a moment in this movie you haven't seen before--the only twist is that the enemy is alien, so whatever shred of concern you might have for raining heavy artillery on a fellow human being can be cheerfully cast aside... -- Bret Fetzer

Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son, starring Martin Lawrence and Brandon T. Jackson (2011) Rated PG-13

Martin Lawrence returns as Master of Disguise ... FBI agent Malcolm Turner in the second sequel to 2000's blockbuster Big Momma's House. Here, the agent must throw on the padding to pose as the housemother at an exclusive Female School of the Arts, in an attempt to ferret out a murderous Russian Mobster. The twist? This time he's forced to bring his stepson (Tropic Thunder's Brandon T. Jackson) along with him. The presence of Jackson makes this genially mellow sequel feel like a low-impact passing of the torch, with Lawrence (who also executive produced) seemingly content to let his younger costar handle most of the cross-dressing comedic heavy lifting (ballet lessons, slumber parties, etc.)... --Andrew Wright

Just Go With It, starring Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler (2011) Rated PG-13

It all comes down to chemistry... If the premise, loosely based on the Goldie Hawn film Cactus Flower, stretches reality, the capability of the whole cast makes Just Go with It an enjoyable ride. Sandler plays Danny, a surgeon who falls for a much-younger bombshell, Palmer (swimsuit model Brooklyn Decker, a surprisingly natural actress). But when Palmer finds the fake wedding band that commitment-phobe Danny has used for his no-strings-attached previous relationships, the web of fibs begins. Danny asks his assistant, Katherine (Aniston), to pretend to be his soon-to-be-ex-wife, and Aniston plays it to the hilt... Our advice: Sit back, and just go with it. - A.T. Hurley
