This is in regard to the August 17 news story about Jack Mindrup, "Blind Omahan Wins Homestead Appeal." I commend the Douglas County Board for doing what is right and interpreting the law fairly and equally in Mr. Mindrup's favor.
I am president of the American Council of the Blind of Nebraska and our organization has been attempting for several years to have the Legislature add the blind into the homestead exemption for the same reasons that Mr. Mindrup outlined during his presentation to the board.
He deserves thanks for making others aware of the issues facing blind and visually impaired Nebraska citizens.
