Resulting from the controversy during the 2000 presidential election, HR 3295, otherwise known as the Help America Vote Act of 2002, mandated that by the 2006 primary election, there must be at least one accessible voting machine per precinct for the disabled community to independently cast their ballots
To help familiarize blind and visually impaired voters of the new voting machine, Dave Phipps from the Douglas County Election Commission gave a hands on demonstration of the technology both at the Omaha chapter meeting the evening of April 13 as well as at our 2006 state convention the afternoon of April 22 at the Days Inn in Bellevue, Nebraska.
ACBN wishes to thank Dave Phipps and his staff for their presentation and accessibility to our membership both on April 13 and April 22. It is believed that with the demonstration of the new technology those persons having benefited from the professional demonstration will, for the first time, truly appreciate independent voting.
