MISSION STATEMENT

The Employment Committee, in conjunction with the American Council of the Blind (ACB), is committed to reducing the over 70% rate of unemployment among people with visual impairments. Strategies will include educational/training activities and job fairs conducted during annual ACB Conferences and Conventions and other initiatives carried on throughout the year (preparing and disseminating training materials to employers and consumers and promoting advocacy efforts on behalf of employees and job seekers with visual impairments).

MAJOR GOALS

  1. Conduct workshops and provide training materials for ACB members and other blind and visually impaired persons on the skills needed to effectively address employment-related obstacles.
  2. Develop resolutions and/or position papers which offer solutions or otherwise address the elimination of existing barriers to employment (cost of access technology, misconceptions about blindness, etc.).
  3. Develop informational/educational presentations and materials for prospective employers regarding the abilities and capabilities of people with visual impairments.
