Pat, not to mention, you've probably kept yourself off of dialysis so far too.
But I want to tell you, some of the real value in your posts is the 
ability to talk about complications without all the extra baggage 
that could come along with them. I don't hear blame, guilt or any of 
that nonsense. And as complex as diabetes is, it's good to have 
examples of good mental health when dealing with all this stuff. Not 
to say that this stuff doesn't hit us like a downer, make us angry or 
any of that. But this world is just so full of blame and judgment 
these days and it's nice to see a gentler approach. I'll echo the 
sentiment of hoping that it works out the way you want. It would 
probably be my first choice in that situation as well. In the 
meantime, I'll count my blessings, send you a giant E-hug and keep my 
inbox opened for an update or a vent any ol' time.
