Dear Diabetes Community Member:
As you may know, maintaining healthy body weight is a crucial part of
maintaining healthy blood sugar levels. Excessive body weight is one of the
primary
risk factors for type 2 diabetes, and contributes to the difficulty that
many people with type 2 diabetes have with managing their blood sugar
levels.
When planning your efforts to reach and maintain your healthy body weight,
it may help to remember this simple set or formulas:
list of 5 items
Calories in food > Calories used = Weight gain
Calories in food < Calories used = Weight loss
Calories in food = Calories used = Weight control
In other words, managing weight also means managing diet (in addition to
regular healthy exercise). Managing all of these elements together can help
you
keep your blood sugar levels within the range that's healthy for you, and
that can help you gain better control of your type 2 diabetes. (Remember:
always
consult your doctor before making any type 2 diabetes-related decisions
regarding your diet, your medication, or your exercise regimen.) For more
helpful
information on how people with type 2 diabetes can reach their healthy
weight goals, visit these useful sites:
