Bill, (Bill Lewis here) If you are pre-diabetic, consider yourself to be a diabetic and get with the program of better food choices and regular exercise to burn calories and reduce glucose. Otherwise, you keep your pancreas straining to produce high levels of insulin to handle the food in your system. In time, the pancreas will poop out and you will then definitely be a diabetic for life.
I had pre-diabetes for years, but my doctor never considered it a serious problem. He just suggested mildly that I would benefit by losing a few pounds. If he had, instead, told me to get with the exercise, start learning about food choices, and use a diabetes pill, if the numbers climb out of the normal range.
But if your A1C is below 6, sounds like you're doing good. But if your glucose tests from home read high, it could be that your glucose meter reads a bit high. Mine does.
Oh, by the way, welcome back.

Hello,
My name is Bill Deatherage I have been on the list in the past and dropped off for a while. I decided to get back on again. I realize there is a lot of good information to be had here.
by the way, tomorrow I am going for the glucose tolerence test. My blood sugers are testing in the 150's but my A1c test is 5.5 So to answer the question am I diabetic or not I am ggoing for the glucose tolerence test. My doctor says that I have a lot of the simptoms of being diabetic but the test will help us to determine if I am or not. He says that I might be a border line diabetic. or in the early stages. So keep your fingers crossed for me I am having the test at 9:30 a.m.
