Jo Anne:
I agree with you re the ziplock baggie under the meter; in any event, I
always keep extra lancets and pen needles in a ziplock bag stored elsewhere,
like in my shoulder bag.
As for good accessible diabetes books, aside from the American Diabetes
Association and Joslin Center diabetes guides (available from the BARD
site), I think just about the best practical book for living with diabetes
every day is Gretchen Becker's "The First Year -- Type 2 Diabetes; A Guide
for the Newly-Diagnosed". It's available from the BARD site in both the
first and second editions. Ms. Becker presents both the "orthodox" diet
recommendations and those of low-carbers and presents you with analytical
tools to determine what works best for you.
IF you're and RFB&D member, Hope Warshaw's "Complete Guide to Carb Counting"
is available, as is Dr. Palonsky's "Diabetes Burnout: What to Do When You
Can't Take it Anymore". Also, the various books by Jenny brand-Miller (I
think that's her name) on the glycemic index are available from RFB&D.
A search on the word "diabetes" on both the BARD and RFB&D sites yields a
plethora of books, most of which are pretty good. One of the newer BARD
books is "Diabetes 911" from ADA.
I've got all of these on a 2-gig NLS cartridge.
