Hi Cathy,
I have read that most diabetics that have had the disease for some time have gastoparesis to some extent. You can have a very expensive test done using radioactive isotopes so that they can measure exactly how long it takes your food to digest after you have eaten this radioactive meal.
I do have it. I have found it best to eat meals in smaller quantities and also to eat foods that are not hard to digest. I have found meals that are high in fat make it worse and I've read that too much fiber will make your food harder to digest. The gastoparesis played havoc with my blood sugars because I never knew how long it would take my food to digest when I was taking insulin. I would take my insulin after I ate because my food digested so slowly. There is medication, if you can stand the side effects,
I am very fortunate in that my transplant is still working and I no longer take insulin. Whew!!! I still eat the same. It is a very hard disease.
Take care,
Sally

Subject: [acb-diabetics] gastro pereesus
Hello Everyone, What can anyone tell me about gastro peresus? Does anyone have it? I haven't been diagnoses with it but if what I am reading on the net is accurate I might have a symptom or two. I had a very young client die from it so naturally I am concerned. I also had a young friend who had it and she got a pancreas and kidney transplant very quickly but I'm not in my twenties. I'm in my 50's. I plan to call the doctor tomorrow but if Medicare isn't paying for endocronological visits I'm not sure who to call. I have Medicaid as well. I know I am not real active on the list but I could really use some advice.
Thanks,
Cathy Pyper
