Dotty:

Although (being in Albania) you've probably already made the call, I
wouldn't hold your breath insofar as a hopeful answer is concerned were I
you. If I recall correctly, the SensoCard Plus was made in Hungary or the
Czech Republic although it was definitely agressively marketed in the UK a
few years ago and I would have given my eye teeth for one. I wrote to RNIB
a couple of years ago but it wouldn't sell me one because the meter wasn't
approved for use here in the U.S. In fact, in I believe 2007, the SensoCard
Plus people said they were applying for FDA market approval and Independent
Living Aids was going to sell it -- had, in fact, put out a blurb about it
and I had ordered one, only to be told that it would be some time before the
meter was available here and I wasn't charged for it.

It was going to be a mighty long time, in fact, like even forever? because
in 2008, I checked FDA records and although it was claimed that the
SensoCard Plus 510(k) application had been put in in 2007, it was not on
file. Supposedly the company had made some mistakes in filing. When I
called attention to this deficiency, a 510(k) filing did, in fact, show up
but I never heard anything more about it and I haven't looked at the FDA
site since. Incidentally, 2007 and 2008 could be 2008 and 2009 though I
think it was earlier than that. Given the funny-business involved with the
FDA market approval application, I suspect that the company mined the market
insofar as it could and either has gone belly-up or has gone on to greener
pa$stur$es.
