A mandate is do this! Mentoring shows you how to accomplish
something. You'd think the medical community would understand by now
that teaching and guiding will do much better at accomplishing what
each of us needs to do. Turning us all into criminals or listed as
simply compliant or noncompliant just isn't a good model, especially
since so many just hand out a pill, tell someone they're overweight,
and home they go! It does take some time to work out a system for
managing daily life with diabetes and changes and results don't
happen in a few days. We all have different life styles; different
learning styles; different relationships with our doctors and so on.
I think treating diabetes should be given the proper sort of level of
importance. To me that means working with each one of us to help us
do the best each of us can. I've seen too much guilt get in the way
of good control and I'm all for changing that. Truthfully, that's
partly what inspired my CD. We all need laughter, a certain comfort
level for living with who we are, knowing what is and then going from
there. I'm not saying don't do the difficult stuff. But I'm sure
saying don't do the difficult stuff alone. We all deserve to be
treated with respect and some understanding. Then we make our choices
and figure out how best to live quality lives.
Okay, off my soap box now. <grin.>
