I am doing some work with my endo and a group on mindful eating. The biggest thing is recording what you eat and measure ,measure, measure. This has been studied and is so important. Those who record their food intake are more successful at weight loss. Look at how many carbs you have per meal. Then"spend " those carbs in a healthy way. Once spent you can't eat until you have your next time of with drawl of carbs. I wil have to look up the title of the book and send it out later today. It is a slow process for me but I have lost 5 pounds, 30 to go. Nancy

Gina Kolata, author of "Rethinking Thin ...", available from the BARD web site, wouldn't be surprised.  She maintains that it is futile to try to lose weight beyond one's "set point" long-term.  However, others of course disagree with her.  Look up Gretchen Becker's book on "Diabetes --the First Year" available from BARD.  Plenty of good advice there.

Well, she did say to eat smaller meals throughout the day instead of two or three big ones.  I've lost weight about half a dozen times, only to gain it back again.  Dieting, however I define it, doesn't seem to be a long term solution for me.  The one that worked best is weight watchers.  I'm considering trying it again, online this time, because I hear that now you can eat whatever you want, as long as you add the point value and don't go over your total.  The biggest problem I have is emotional eating.  That's sometimes called the "Oh, screw it", factor.  There's no easy solution for that.  The best thing was Meridia, but I had to give it up because it raised my blood pressure too much.  I'm between forty and fifty pounds overweight, depending on which of several numbers should be my normal
weight.  That disqualifies me for weight loss surgery.
