Subject: Advocacy Network Call to Action!
Hello Everyone,
Received this email and wanted to share! With the proposed debt ceiling
negotiations, social security, Medicare, and Medicaid are being considered
for cuts. "Now is the Time to Speak your Mind!" Call or email your
Congressional representative to tell them your personal story about
Medicaid. The enclosed information will direct you on how to make calls or
email. If you need any assistance, please call me!
Thanks,
Nita

What are Obama and Boehner Whispering About?
Yesterday, Obama and Speaker Boehner reportedly moved closer to reaching an

negotiations.
The plan under consideration would include sharp cuts to health programs,
including Medicaid.
We must make sure that any deal that comes out of these negotiations
preserves opportunities for people with disabilities.
Right now, lawmakers must be reminded why Medicaid is important - and they
need to hear it from you.
Call your Congressional representative at 866-324-0787 and tell them your
Medicaid story.
We need Congress to stand up for our community. If they are going to
advocate for the vital services so many of us depend on, they need to know
how Medicaid serves as a lifeline for people with disabilities.
Your story is a tool for change. Make sure Congress hears it.
Call 866-324-0787 today.

As pundits debate the implications of the latest unemployment data, far too
little attention has been paid once again to the pervasive, dramatic
underemployment of people with serious mental illnesses. This population is
truly forgotten by most media, policymakers and thought leaders...

Americans Serve Their Country
via the Washington Post (7.21.11):
by Robert Weinstock
In May 1971, near the end of my junior year in high school, I participated
in Armed Forces Day activities at the U.S. Naval Academy. I was immediately
enchanted by the academy and Annapolis.
When I returned to school the following week, I asked my guidance counselor
if I could apply to the Naval Academy. He said that he didn't think so,
"because you have to be able to hear to serve our country"...
