[acb-diabetics] Insulin Pump: To do or not to do.

My warranty runs out next June and I am wondering how the new Spirit is
doing. IN Jan., Mini-Med is coming out to show me their new pump as I am
also looking at getting a CMG as I am having diabetic unawareness problems.
Those, of course, are not accessible either!

Well, the real question will come in a year and a half when my
warranty is up. Hmmm, what will I do? Ummm, cry? Cry some more? Then
think about it?
Hey, it worked in 2009. I actually got the last pump they issued
because I worked my way up the food chain and begged. I know I won't
have that option next time. People keep circulating tales about
supplies running out but I'm not seeing any evidence of that right
now. At least for now I can enjoy being happy and spoiled. And the
sad part is that in this definition of happy and spoiled, it's about
better control. But I haven't ever had to make use of my warranty so
in a way, part of me hopes I can hang on till something new comes out
that is to my liking. I know the Spirit is about to come out with a
new model, which uses a remote to get at some of the features that
are now only available on the PDA. I actually played with this remote
and wasn't that impressed. For one thing, it's practically all
wizards and questions. It doesn't have the degree of audio feedback
that we get on the main pump itself. Not only that, but you'll lose
one of the cool aspects of having a Spirit, getting that backup pump
that will run for 180 days.
I don't know. In its day, boy, in terms of stability and simplicity,
nothing beat those old H-Trons in my book. Sometimes I think I'm
really ready to play with no tubing in my next pump. I'm curious to
see what the next pods are like for the OmniPod, assuming they make
it through the FDA backlog.
Many of the Smiths Medical people have gone over to Tandem and I
noticed a lot of the Cozmo features in that pump. Bummer that it's
only touch screen though. So, since I don't have to decide today,
I'll just try to hope that the world surprises me and I'll keep doing
what I need to do in order to make one of those surprises come about.
Anyway, for now, I'm grateful I landed where I did in the calendar of
life and who knows! I might even have Windows 7 sorted out by the
time I have to think about my next pump. <grin.>
Take care; talk to ya soon.
