Nancy:
The Solo has *not* been updated although a new version is slated to come out
any time now that fixes some of the original meter's deficiencies.
Insurance companies often switch meter manufacturers depending upon what
sort of sweetheart deal they can get. However, if you still wish to use the
Prodigy (I'm still using it until the Solo gives the times as well as dates
of readings when reviewing from memory), you can often get your physician to
write a letter to your insurance carrier stipulating that the Prodigy is the
only meter that will meet your needs.
I'm not saying the Solo doesn't work; it does and the extra electrode on the
strip makes for less guesswork when you have insufficient blood on the
strip. But it's a show-stopper for me when times of readings from memory
aren't spoken.
Alternatively, if your insurer covers the Prodigy Autocode, the Voice will
now use Autocode strips.

Subject: [acb-diabetics] The Prodigy Voice Strips
Hi, everyone. I haven't been on the list for awhile, but I've
been reading through it. Recently, United Healthcare, my
insurance company, has stopped covering the Prodigy Voice strips.
They're now covering the Solo strips instead. Do most insurance
companies do this? That is, do they stop covering the old
technology and only cover newer things like the Solo strips? I
have both meters, but why don't they cover both. Caremark, who
dispenses my pharmaceuticals sent me a 90-day supply of strips
for the Solo, costing me about $60. I guess the price of strips
has gone up. Has the Solo meter been updated? I haven't used
it, but will start using it now. I have the Solo meter I won in
a drawing at the national convention 2 years ago, I think. Pat,
what is diabetic unawareness? Talk to everyone later. Fondly,
Nancy Ungar
