[acb-diabetics] Proposed constitution changes

Ken and Whomever,
Many years, when AAVL was being formed, they were aware of the potential
problem with the Past-President being restricted from active membership by
definition of the Past-President role. Therefore, in their Bylaws, they
allow for the Past-President to serve as Past-President but, in addition, be
feel to carry out his/her rights as a paid-up member and serve anywhere else
on the Executiv e and General Board of Directors.
I believe we in ACBDA should simply ammend the Bylaws to allow the
Past-President to also serve on committees, and other positions on the
Executive Board. With membership in the hundreds, this might not be a
numbers problem but certainly is in a small organization with limited labor
supply. Besides, does it sound fair (or legal) to tell a past-president
that he/she cannot take an open role in the organization which the
definition of "full membership" defines.
Although I will not be able to attend the convention in July, good luck, and
I will follow along via ACB Braille Forum audio.
Warm regards, an old friend,
Bill Lewis

My involvement in numerous organizations throughout the years has been that
an immediate past president can only hold that office in an organization
until a new President is elected, and until the current Presidet becomes an
Immediate Past President. That doesn't mean that an Immediate Past President
can't serve on committees, be a committee chair, or continue working for the
benefit of the organization. Immediate Past President does have all voting
rights and thus should not, and I believe cannot, hold two offices at the
same time.

As proposed the past president is still restricted too much. I feel he/she
should only be required to give up post of past president if taking another
position, not be prevented from seeking or accepting another position.
If the order of office were in effect now, Dee could be appointed as second
vice president not first. My two cents.
