[acb-diabetics] acb-diabetics -- Blood Glucose Test Strips and Insurance...

Hello all,

I ran into this problem with my former employer who used Anthem BC/BS and
appealed their policy that non-approved test strips for talking meters would
cost a member more than their approved strips...Appealed on the grounds that
those of us who use talking meters do not have the option of using their
approved meters since they are not accessible and as such should not be
penalized by being charged more for non-approved test strips; still fighting
it, although a former colleague of mine shared that he received
reimbursement. I will update the post once resolved one way or another for
my individual case.

And, by way of FYI, Medical Mutual here in Cleveland, to their credit, did
have the Prodigy Voice on their list of approved meters, so with them, it
was a non-issue. Some insurers get it.

Has anyone else been told by their pharmacy or mail order provider that test
strips for talking glucose meters are not preferred and will cost more than
ones for a non talking meter? Blue Cross federal even says Freestyle strips
are non preferred to One Touch or Accucheck. They will make an exception
via a form filled out by doc and approved by them.

Sounds as though the insurance company is just requiring the medical
community to jump through more hoops for a patient to acquire needed
services. And... The Republicans talk about Death Panels!!

As I wander through the 1200 email that collected while my computer was
down, I want to wish all a wonderful Christmas. I hope the food is
bontifuland the weight is not.
