[acb-diabetics] Confusion about starches and legumes.

The most confusing thing to me about diet is that almost every food except
pure roughage raises your blood sugar. When I was in Weight Watchers, beans
such as garbanzos, pintos and black beans were considered an alternative to
lean meats. Why change now, just because I failed a glucose tolerance test.

As much as I know, only green beans and yellow beans are low on starch. All
others have some degree of starch in them.

I've been a type II diabetic for almost two years and have met with a
dietician once. However, I read something about legumes being good for you
and a good substitute for meat. But some other beans and peas are considered
starch. Can someone shed light for me on what beans are good to eat and
others that need to be counted as starch? Thanks.

Jo Anne.
