Hi.  After reading for years about the numerous theories that can help us control and treat our diabetes, the bottom line to weight control and glucose management seems to be one solution – portion size.  If we have problems, we are eating too much or eating too much wrong food choices.  I told myself to cut my food intake in half, but I can’t find a tape measure, or a food scale that works, or a proper knife, or a solution as to what to do with the leftovers, when I was taught to clean my plate.  Furthermore, I can’t find a small plate.  Maybe someday.  How about you?  -- Bill Lewis

Some beans and nuts have carbohydrates. For example, 1/2 cup of black beans is 15 grams of carbohydrate. Nuts also have good natural fats, but I have heard that only a very small serving of them is needed. I like to eat vegetarian as much as possible. The problem is that homemade recipes--especially when someone doesn't measure ingredients--are tricky to figure out carb amounts for. Most people don't understand that diabetics--especially people with Type 1--use carbohydrates to determine insulin and not glycemic index, which is quite frustrating. I will stop ranting now.
