Director for Services for Students with Disabilities
A full-time administrative and professional academic staff
position is available at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire
for an individual to serve as director of Services for Students
with Disabilities. The official title of this position is in the
student services program manager title series and is available
beginning August 1, 2010. This position reports to the
Associate Vice Chancellor for Undergraduate Studies in the
Division of Academic Affairs.
Responsibilities
Administer and supervise the programmatic, personnel, and budget
functions of the office of Services for Students with
Disabilities (SSD), incorporating both campus and grant
resources.
Monitor all data relative to service provision to students with
disabilities. Complete reporting for SSD programs and services
in accordance with UW System policy and applicable law.
Develop, analyze, and evaluate programs, materials, and services
designed to meet student needs, and supervise the provision of
all mandated and non-mandated services for students with
disabilities.
Provide direct services to students with disabilities, including
reviewing disability documentation, developing accommodation
plans, referring students for testing, and providing other
services as needed.
Provide advocacy for students, working as needed with
administrators, faculty, and academic staff members to ensure
compliance with federal mandates and UW System guidelines.
Serve on UW-Eau Claire and UW System committees and workgroups as
requested. Chair the Provost's Advisory Committee on
Accessibility Issues for Persons with Disabilities.
Provide input and review accessibility features of new
construction and remodeling projects.
Consult in the process of researching, recommending, and
purchasing adaptive equipment and technologies.
Provide information and outreach to prospective students,
parents, secondary schools, and local organizations concerning
services for students with disabilities.
Maintain UW-Eau Claire policies and procedures relative to access
and accommodations for students with disabilities and serve as a
campus resource on UW-Eau Claire policy, UW System policy, and
applicable law regarding students with disabilities.
Work with Affirmative Action, Human Resources, Learning and
Technology Services, the Center for Excellence in Teaching and
Learning, and other relevant offices to develop resources and
provide training to faculty and staff related to accommodations,
universal design, web accessibility, and other areas affecting
students with disabilities.
Requirements
The following are required qualifications:
Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution.
Demonstrated ability to review disability documentation and to
develop accommodation plans.
Working knowledge of accommodation strategies, adaptive
technology, and assistive equipment.
Expert knowledge of Federal and State law pertaining to persons
with disabilities.
The following qualifications will be considered assets:
Demonstrated ability to administer and supervise programmatic,
personnel, and budget functions.
Experience in developing, analyzing, and evaluating programs and
services designed to meet student needs in a postsecondary
education setting.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational
skills.
Ability to bring diverse perspectives to the campus.
