[acb-hsp] MSW?

Yvonne,

You need to get a case for your computer that is on wheels. That is what I have. Also, I think you need to go and talk with the director of your social work program about these problems. If your school is accredited you must attend so many hours of field placement experience in order to get your degree and that is why it can't be done from home. It is the school's responsibility to help you find a placement where you will get supervision. Otherwise it is likely you will have to pay for this help. I have supervised students before, and it was helpful they were doing their placements at my agency so I really knew how they were doing. One did very poorly and I didn't really think she should be allowed to graduate, but she did. I have to ask myself, what kind of school are you attending? They sound as though they aren't very supportive. Is the school accredited by the Council on Social work Education? In order to get your license and work in most states you need to be attending a program which is accreditted. I hope this is the case.

Peace to you,
Donna Rose, LMSW

Yes, this semester is almost over and I am not sure if I will even get my hours in. I have had some attendance issues in the past, but have addressed the problem. But, I just had emergency surgery to take out my appendix and have asked to work from home for 2 weeks since I am not able to carry my laptop bag around since it is to heavy. I called and emailed my supervisor and she has not even bothered to return either message. I found out that I cannot work from home from the field coordinator. I was also questioned why I can attend class and not work, well class is 2 hours per day for 3 days a week and I can get around not taking my laptop. So at this point I am very stressed and upset, not to mention in pain.

  Hi Donna,

I am one of those unassertive ones who suffered through a terrible field placement and failed, and thus had to repeat a year of grad school. By all means, I would urge Yvonne to request an alternate placement. It is early enough in the school year that this should be possible.

  Hi Yvonne,

I think this person has to live in your state. Didn't your school make this placement? They usually do this for you which means they are responsible for changing it when yours doesn't work out. I would suggest you go and talk to your field placement office. I have seen a lot of students who aren't comfortable with their current placements who suffer in silence when changing might be possible and necessary. Good luck.

I am having allot of problems with my current internship and would like to change, but I need to be supervised by someone with a MSW or a higher degree in social work. So I am wondering if anyone on the list has a MSW, and if I am allowed would have 1 hour per week to help me with supervision? Not sure yet if this is even allowed, but am checking out my options.

    Thanks,

    Yvonne
