As someone who has chronic headaches (I do mean headaches), I am quite
interested in reading this book. In my personal therapy, one of my treatment
goals was to learn to cope with my chronic pain without turning into a moody
mess or ruining my relationships by lashing out at people and letting the
pain govern my reactions to things. From a professional standpoint now in
ministry, one of my goals is to assist people in finding healthy ways to
cope with the impact of chronic pain on daily life and relationships.
Another is to assist the church to learn to provide appropriate support to
people living with chronic pain. If you say the word cancer, or something
else that seems to have a foreseeable end, the church will step up because
they perceive that they know how to offer support. Chronic illness is
another animal; and it seems that people are very hesitant to get involved
with situations where their involvement may turn out to be long-term.
