Hi. To my knowledge, there is no real difference in certification for
bereavement counseling than any other. I suppose, somewhere, you can become
certified as a bereavement counselor but am not even sure about that--in the
US. I just call myself a LPC who does bereavement counseling (because I've
taken CEUs), same as I call myself an LPC who does Marriage and family, same
as I am an LPC who does substance abuse. I'm not a certified or licensed
MFT nor am I a CAC, and I don't have to be--not in this state or in most
others. Now, yes, there are certifications / licenses in MFT and there is
the CAC.
Do a google search on certified bereavement counselors, or certified grief
counselors
and you'll find out whether there are, in fact, certifying entities, where
you can get additional CEU's, etc. and whether you merely want the CEUs
(continuing education), or whether you wish to pursue full certification.
By the way, you can do that with anything: thought field therapy (there is
certification); Emotional freedom technique, cognitive-behavior therapy
(there is certification), choice therapy, etc. etc.
But in reality, if you possess a license, you probably don't need to be
Certified unless you simply like the idea thereof, or simply really want
that to be your specialty.
What you can expect with Certifications is payments of $200 and above each
year, possibly more tests and possibly (but not likely) supervision. And a
certificate.

Hi all,
I would be interested in knowing more about the certification process for
bereavement counseling. Thanks!
