Hi. Very good summary, Marleen.
I'm really sorry I missed that call and it was one I intended to join. I got busy writing papers and, well, at least I got them done. <smiles>
Great summary / suggestions!

Subject: [acb-hsp] ACB-HSP conference call summary for December 4, 2011
The call began at 8:30 pm EST., 5:30 pm. PST. Our guest speaker was Robert Wendt, Career Counselor, California State University, Long Beach. Robert spoke about resume writing, and gave his experiences with employers about what they want, and don't want, on a resume. He stated that, when writing a resume, you should start out with a master list of accomplishments related to the position for which you are applying. He stated that most employers prefer a chronological resume. Your resume should contain at least4 sections. They are:
1. Your contact information.
2. Your goals and objectives.
3. Your work experience and
4. Your education.
You can include a miscelaneous section highlighting awards and other activities, but you should only do this if these activities relate to the position for which you are applying, since an excessively lengthy resume will not hold an employers' interest. He recommends that an email address should be set up exclusively for job hunting, and that the email address be some derivation of your name. Phone calls should be answered professionally at all times, since employers will call after business hours to schedule interviews. Your goals and objectives should be concise, stating the position, or type of position for which you are applying. Your experience section should be drawn from the master list that you created to write your resume. If you are not prepared to talk about a particular job you held, don't put it on the resume. Finally, your education section should be after your experience section, since your work experience will be of greater importance to prospective employers. A cover letter should always be included, even if it is not required. It shows the employer that you took the extra time to include it. He stated that he is available for consultation. Those interested should send him an email, and he will schedule a time to speak to you. His email address is:

Those who missed the call missed a very informative presentation.
Respectfully Submitted
