Brief highlights of the announcement:
The Disability Specialist will provide legally mandated and
supplemental
support services to students with a wide range of disabilities.
The
Disability Specialist will also function as the campus's resource
expert
for services for students with psychological disabilities. The
position
offers an exciting opportunity to provide comprehensive service
to
students with disabilities in a supportive and collaborative work
environment, as well as flexibility in work schedule.
Functions as the campus expert for the provision and coordination
of
academic services for students with psychological disabilities,
including major mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and psychotic
disorders as they relate to a student's education. Also serves
students
with learning disorders (Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder
and
learning disabilities) and students with Autism Spectrum
Disorders.
Required Qualifications
. Advanced degree in Clinical Psychology, Counseling
Psychology, Social
Work, or related field. License in the aforementioned fields or
equivalent work experience and responsibility.
. Previous experience with DSM IV diagnoses and interpretation
of
psychological documentation.
. Experience working with adolescents and adults with
psychological
disabilities.
. Expert interpersonal communication skills, including
political acumen,
and ability to build and maintain effective relationships at all
levels
within the University and with outside agencies as well.
. Exceptional oral and written communication skills to
communicate
student needs and campus responsibilities to faculty, staff, and
students throughout the organization.
. Advanced computer knowledge, proficiency, and skills. Must
be able to
function in both a Mac and PC environment and be comfortable
working
with various software programs and database systems.
. Ability to thrive in a unique, complex, academic,
student-focused
environment.
Preferred Qualifications
License preferred.
Experience working in a post-secondary setting with college
students
with psychological and other disabilities.
Knowledge of federal and state laws governing disability
compliance in
higher education a plus.
