Hello Alexis,

I am the Vice President of ACB HSP and I welcome you to the list. I hope that you enjoy the list and will consider getting involved with the organization. We have monthly conference calls, and we offer a program at the yearly conventions of ACB.

Take care,

Andy

Subject: [acb-hsp] Introduction

My name is Alexis, and I am an adaptive technology instructor at an agency for the blind in Rochester, New York. I have been working at this agency for 15 months having completed the majority of my course requirements for grad school. The grad school issue is a whole other post in itself. I tried to complete coursework leading to a masters in vision rehabilitation therapy, but things happened to derail that plan, things I won’t get into here.

For the most part, I enjoy my work. I love coming up with creative ways to teach my students computer skills and concepts. Many of my students tell me that they feel more at ease with me as their teacher because I don’t rush them, nor do I show signs of impatience. This makes me feel good because sometimes, impatience is something I struggle with in a teaching situation.

When I’m not working and the weather is nice, I like taking walks with my Seeing Eye dog, Julia. She is a 5 year old Lab/golden cross. We’ve been a team now for 3 years. It will be 4 years this coming September.

I look forward to participating on this list.

Regards,

Alexis Read
