The call began at 8:30 PM. EDT., 5:30 PM. PDT. The purpose of the call was
to discuss attracting new members to ACB-HSP, and increasing call
participation by existing members. Our guest speaker was Ardis Bazyn, who
is the ACB membership committee chair. She stated that the best way to
attract new members is to have your name in front of the ACB membership as
much as possible. She also recommended polling the existing membership to
find out what they wanted to see done on subsequent calls, as well as
networking with other special interest affiliates. Another suggestion was
to facilitate more communication with Sharon Lovering, editor of the Braille
Forum, so that ACB-HSP matters could be published in a timely manner. The
possibility of holding fewer conference calls, and having special guest
speakers was discussed. It was decided that there would be an officers'
conference call in early August to summarize what went on at the July ACB
conference/convention, and a call would be held in September, during which
the ACB-HSP membership would be invited to verbalize what they wanted from
their membership in the affiliate.
The call was adjourned at 9:40 PM. EDT., 6:40 PM., PDT.
Respectfully Submitted,
