Hey, Darien and list:

As President of the Employment Committee, I apologize for someone
not attending your session to talk about the job fair. I thought
I had assigned someone to do this, but I had to cut my time at
the convention short because of my wife's illness.

Now, some bad news and good news.

The Employment Committe's first session does indeed conflict with
your first session, which saddens me. Our second session, a
presentation by MJ Schmit about her work experiences, will NOT
conflict with your second session as your second session
immediately follows our second session.

So...I hope all of you come to our second session to hear from
MJ, as I'm sure she'll have lots of interesting things to say.

Best, Peter

>Hi Folks,

>I’m responding to the comments about the HSP convention
program.

>Yes, our program is on Wednesday July 13 as Andy said. Our first
session is at 2:45 and involves a panel discussion with
interactive discussion with the audience about networking and
mingling as professionals with vision impairments. We follow
that at 5:45 with a mixer where we may practice the skills and
just get to know one another. We thought the subject would
appeal to a wider audience in ACB.

>As any of you know who attend or plan programs at
conference/conventions, it’s impossible to plan programs so
they do not conflict with other programs. It’s such a busy
week. We are working on trying to partner with other affiliates
on programs, but it is not always possible. Many affiliates run
into this same difficulty.
>Sometimes affiliates attempt to network throughout the year to
coordinate, but it doesn’t always work out. Last year, we
hoped to have someone visit our program to talk about the
employment taskforce job fair, but it didn’t happen. But we
did partner with Aging and Vision Loss to talk about
volunteering, recreation and getting involved in community.

>Perhaps special interest affiliates could utilize the leadership
list more to put out feelers about partnering with one another,
at least to initiate the process.

>This is not poor planning on the part of HSP or the employment
taskforce. I see it as simply great minds thinking alike.

>As president of Human Service Professionals I certainly encourage
as many people as possible to attend our two part program. I
think we have a lot to offer. I also encourage you to squeeze in
employment taskforce meetings. Perhaps there is a way to split
your time.

>If not, we wish you a wonderful time at conference/convention,
and we hope to meet new and returning attendees at our events and
others.

>Thanks,

>Darian Slayton Fleming
>ACB-HSP President
