Division of Rehabilitation Services (DRS)
POSITION:  Director of Blind and Deaf Services
LOCATION:  Nashville, Tennessee

Administration and Planning - Administers several program areas 
including TN Business Enterprises, Rehabilitation Teaching, 
Independent Living Services for Older Blind, Vocational 
Rehabilitation for the Blind and Prevention of Blindness Services 
and working with the Tennessee Council for the Deaf and Hard of 
Hearing.  Manage these programs and set goal, objectives, and 
methods to perform program evaluations.  Ensuring that programs 
meet Federal and State guidelines.



Policy Development and Enforcement - Direct responsibility with 
input from subordinates and others for policy in all the above 
areas.



Public Relations - represents the department in various 
functions, speaking to consumer and civic organizations; develops 
press releases on issues related to Blind Services and Deaf and 
Hard of Hearing; develops public relations materials such as 
brochures; maintains daily contact with those outside the agency 
including with blind vendors, Committee of Blind Vendors 
representatives, property management officials, elected officials 
(state and local); complaints from customers and general public



Provide direct supervision of 13 staff and overall staff of 
approximately 90 employees statewide with an overall budget of 
approximately $11 million.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
To be considered minimally qualified, applicants should meet the 
following:
*        Bachelors Degree
*        At least 5 years in a program that serves individuals 
who are blind and/or deaf.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Preference may be given to applicants who, in addition to the 
above minimum qualifications, also possess one or more of the 
following:
*        Masters Degree In Rehabilitation, Public Administration 
or Management
*        Ten years of management of professionals in a public 
sector vocational rehabilitation program (state or federal), with 
a full and wide-ranging knowledge of related statutes, rules and 
regulations, working with the blind and deaf services
 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Annual Salary Range of $44,124 to $70,644
