This congress is nibbling away at one right after another. As a
63 year old
blind woman, I have witnessed the struggles of women with
disabilities and
members of my own family to deal with domestic violence. Please
stand up for
women.
Hey --
True story: Congress may actually fail to renew the Violence
Against Women
Act because right-wing politicians are concerned that it protects
too many
people. The legislation, which has helped reduce domestic
violence
dramatically over the years, is being expanded to better protect
LGBT,
undocumented and Native American victims. And it should: No one
should be
denied protection from domestic violence--which results in the
death of 3
women every single day!
Congress is getting away with this because hardly anyone is
talking about it
and most of their constituents don't know this is happening. But
the media
is starting to pick up on this story and if we speak out loudly
we can make
it crystal clear that we are not going to stand for politicians
who play
politics with women's lives. I just signed a petition demanding
that
Congress pass the Violence Against Women Act right away. Can you
join me?
