[acb-hsp] Being alone

If I lived alone, I think I would prefer an apartment, because I think I would feel more alone if I were alone in a larger space. And if you have a cooperative landlord who keeps things up, that’s something you don’t have to worry about. A house is great if you are handy, but you can spend a lot of money on painters, electricians, roofers, etc.

Hi Sarah, I think my hearing loss is, by far, more a detriment than being blind. Adding both together certainly does not help, however I know my sociability and desire to do so has greatly decreased since I've lost more hearing. Its very difficult now when there is noise at all, or several conversations, and therefore I'm not inclined to do much. I feel sad, really sad, about that because I like to socialize and like being around people.
<sigh>
I, too, definitely prefer living in a house as opposed to apartment.

Hi, Carmella.
Interesting thoughts... I love to be around people, and I greatly enjoy hosting guests. I prefer living in a house because I don’t like hearing too much of other people’s noise, bothering people at the wrong times with mine, etc. I think that part of my “noise issues” are colored by life with chronic illness and hearing impairment—I need to be able to hear and understand conversation, stay oriented, etc. I am emotionally uncomfortable in environments where the noise level prohibits this, even if I want to be there.
