[acb-hsp] anyone done an internship with voc rehab

Dear All,
As is true with Rhonda, I was a VR major; thus, I did mine at a VRF agency;
Oregon has a separate commission for the blind, but I was asked, by a very
well-respected counselor who graduated from the same program I was
attending, to intern with her., Everything went swimmingly until we got a
new office manager who as much as said interns were a pain and worthless or
whatever.
I applied for a job there, which I didn't get and was told by my mentor
later, the office was an awful place to work; I only had to convince one
person; once she accepted me and realized I treated her clients--mostly
MH/state hospital patients--she and I got along famously, and I learned a
lot and my opinion were treated with respect, and my clients all liked me
and even one who said she was afraid of my guide, leaned down to pet her,
near the end of an appointment with me and my mentor.
I also--as unorthodox as this sounds--let my counselor friends take her for
walks to de-stress; she needed the exercise, and she was very trustworthy
with other folks who respected the rules about what she was and was not
allowed to do, so she proved a valued asset as well.

Hi Ronda,
I also completed an internship at a VR agency. I was at Michigan
Rehabilitation Services AKA MRS. Here, in Michigan we have a separate agency
that provides VR services to the blind called Michigan Commission for the
blind. I had a great time and a great learning experience as well. They
were great to work with in coordinating accomodations . The office was about
20 minutes from my house The counselor covered transportation and I also got
a ride from my co-workers whenn in the field. I am wondering does Georgia
have a separate VR agency for the blind or does the general VR agency
provide services to the blind? What school in Georgia do you attend?
Good luck with your internship and keep us posted how things are going.
