[acb-hsp] affiliate growth

They really want to know on Sunday night who the delegate, alternate, and
nominating committee representative will be. In Fact they have been
encouraging as many affiliates as can to get the information to the
Secretary even before the convention begins. Planning is important.

AS Far as combining with other affiliates is concerned I think there is a
lot of room for this. I am a member of three small affiliates and there
were so many conflicts between their meetings I couldn't get to many of
their events. I am a member of our human service provider affiliate and
couldn't go to any of our events. The other two affiliates are the Alliance
on Aging and Vision Loss, and the ACBdia, ACB Diabetics in action. It seems
to me that all three of us could have something together. There are
certainly topics which could be relevant. We ought to be able to provide
social work Services to people from both of the other two affiliates and
certainly there are things of concern to both of these other affiliates.

IMO, a lot of this is stuff that needs to get sorted out before the
convention, if at all possible. Since a vast majority of convention business
is done on Friday, I think it’s extremely important that the affiliate has a
presence then. I have to say it does bug me when affiliates go to the
microphone on Sunday night without knowing who the delegate and/or the
alternate and/or the nominating committee rep will be. To me, it makes
affiliates look really disorganized. I think there needs to be a conference
call right before convention on which it can be determined which affiliate
members will be attending, and for how long. That way assignments could be
made ahead of time. Just a thought.
