Eight Ways to Take More Effective Control of Your Life.
by Thomas S. Parish , Shay Mahoney
This paper, entitled, "Eight Ways to Take More Effective Control of Your Life," provides
some sound ideas regarding how to become more effective and efficient in your actions
and your attitudes, by developing certain "choice" behaviors that should help you
to avoid much stress and achieve greater success.
Almost everybody seeks to develop a recipe for success. What follows is what the
authors consider the "best of the best," for these ideas should be like a slipper
that fits all, no matter if you're short or if you're tall.
1. Always ask yourself what you want. Then ask yourself if you really want it, and
are you ready to do whatever it takes to get it.
2. Always ask yourself if what you want is achievable. As Henry Ford once said, "If
you think you can, or you think you can't, you're absolutely right!"
3. Always give 100% of yourself, and never settle for anything less than your best.
If you continually do your best, you will more likely win.
4. You must let go of the negative past if you really want to have a positive future.
5. Focus on what you want, and don't allow distractions to interfere, i.e., keep
your eye on the target if you really want to hit the bull's eye.
6. Once you have attained what you want set new goals. After all, life is thought
to be a journey more than a destination, so never think that you "have arrived."
Instead, just "enjoy the trip."
7. Always look at stumbling blocks as stepping stones instead.
8. Preparation for success is never easy, but through preparation you will be ready
to achieve it when the fight opportunities present themselves.
"Do you really feel the need to succeed? Remember only you can make the choices that
are needed in order to take more effective control of your life. All of the ideas
offered above are in accordance with William Glasser's "Choice Theory" model (1998),
"Reality Therapy" model (1965), as well as his "Quality School" model (1990). If
you are seeking other good sources, you might wish to go to any of these.
