General Hospital Opiate Treatment Outpatient Program for an MFT or MFT
Intern. This is a full-time UCSF position that provides clinical and
administrative supervision to substance abuse counselors working in a
methadone program. In addition to supervision, about 50% of time will
be spent providing direct counseling to a caseload of patients with
addiction, mental health, and chronic medical conditions.The job title

Job Summary The SFGH Opiate Treatment Outpatient Program (OTOP)
provides detoxification, methadone maintenance dosing and counseling
to opiate-dependent clients in conjunction with medical and
psychiatric services. The target population for OTOPs methadone
maintenance service is low-income medically/psychiatrically
compromised opiate dependent individuals who reside in San Francisco,
primarily in the South of Market, Mission, Castro, Tenderloin, Bayview
and Sunnydale areas. This includes a large proportion of African-
Americans and Latinos, gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender
individuals, women of childbearing age, pregnant women, and post-
partum women. The target population includes people of all ages,
races, ethnicities, sexual orientations, gender identities, religions
or spiritualities, socioeconomic classes, partner statuses, and
physical and mental disabilities. OTOP clients are low-income and
uninsured or underin¬sured. This population has multiple layers of
problems, including poly-drug abuse problems, psychiatric
difficulties, life-threatening health problems, and significant
cultural barriers to receiving proper care. This population is at
especially high risk for HIV.
Under the supervision of the Medical Director and direction of the
Program Director, the incumbent will manage counseling services for
the clients at OTOP. The incumbent should have at minimum a masters
degree and leadership skills in mental health and substance abuse
services; demonstrated group therapy and crisis management skills;
experience in community substance abuse settings with psychiatrically
ill and substance abusing populations; experience working with diverse
populations (e.g., in culture, race, gender, sexual orientation,
ethnicity, etc.); knowledge and understanding of regulatory issues as
they relate to methadone treatment programs; knowledge and
understanding of methadone treatment; effective writing, speaking, and
interpersonal skills; effective collaboration skills; and demonstrated
attendance, reliability, and will perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications Possession of a bachelor's degree in social
work or a related field and one year of related experience; or an
equivalent combination of education and experience; certification as a
Drug and Alcohol Counselor or registered with the Board of Behavioral
Science as an Associate Clinical Social Worker (ASW) or an Intern
Marriage Family Therapist (IMFT), or licensed Marriage Family
Therapist , Clinical Social Worker, Psychologist, or Registered Nurse;
supervisory experience; working knowledge of DSM-IV diagnoses, harm
reduction principles, dual-diagnoses models and interventions;
familiarity with medical systems of practice; clinical and social
interventions appropriate for OTOP clients; various clinical and
administrative supervisory models; demonstrated excellence in oral and
written communication and detail-oriented work style; demonstrated
leadership skills in mental health and substance use services;
demonstrated crisis management skills; experience in community
substance abuse settings with psychiatrically ill and substance
abusing populations; experience working with diverse populations;
demonstrated excellent attendance and reliability.
Requires bending, squatting, climbing stairs, reaching up to shoulder
height; pushing/pulling up to 60 pounds; reaching above shoulder
level; sitting, standing, walking, waist twisting, kneeling, carrying/
lifting 1-60 pounds; gripping/grasping, fine/gross finger
manipulation; repetitive movements of upper and lower extremities;
loud noises; differentiate color; use protective equipment.
Fingerprinting and background check required.
California drivers license.
Preferred Qualifications Clinical Supervisor Certification or in
process of completion of coursework; BCLS Certificate; masters degree
in related field; dual Disorder Certificate; HIV Certificate; prior
related UC experience; 3 years experience working in a Methadone
Treatment Setting; knowledge and understanding of regulatory issues
involved in the administration of a Narcotic Treatment Program;
experience with programs regulated by the State of California Alcohol
and Drug Program Regulations (Title 9); knowledge of Drug Enforcement
Agency rules for Narcotic Treatment Programs, CARF accreditation
requirements, Medi-Cal regulations, HIPAA Guidelines.
License/Certification California drivers license.
