Yes: these school-yard to workplace bullies are not only wrong they are also against the law!
I stood up to the bullying that I was going through. First, I confronted her when I caught her bad mouthing to a vendor.
She acted like nothing happened. Then I wrote a very detailed letter to my supervisor asking for intervention.
When two weeks went by and nothing was done, I asked by supervisor.
She said she did not believe me, so she had taken no action.
So, I found witnesses in the office who had heard the bully talk about me,
got their verbal agreement to back me up,
I then called the head of HR, and discussed my situation.
She asked me to send her a letter describing the chain of events.
I wrote an even more detailed letter and sent it to the head of HR.
Now, not only the bully but also my supervisor were implicated.
The agency took immediate action, and in a flash everything quieted down.
Like overnight.
I am now leaving that job, but with my head held high, for I got glowing work reviews
from others, and have accepted a higher paying job at a different agency.
The HR Department is your friend: they have to be. Harrassment is against the law.

I have been subject to this kind of treatment at various times throughout my
areer. I thought it was over, but it's happening again. I guess at this point
n my career, I have little to lose, so I will fight it with my all, but in the
ast, especially considering what the job market was like for PWD's and the fact
hat I had others depending on me I just sucked it up, even though I feel that
t led to the distruction of my first marriage. It is a tragedy that our
ociety allows people to have that kind of power over other people.

Me, too, Andy; I had a supervisor, still at the same agency, who would pick one
mployee--I was it for awhile--and make their life a virtual hell; a friend had
e bring in my r?sum?, when she knew our boss wouldn't be there after telling me
he had never seen an employee treated so shabbily.
After I was gone, she picked another person--a very hardworking and dedicated
erson--whom she eventually drove out.
Then, we learned later, our job placement specialist (account representative,
hey called them) hadn't visited a single employer during her tenure with the
gency, and she believed everything this person old her including the time she
aid I made her life miserable during a training class we both attended when, in
act, once I had the lay of the land, I asked her for nothing.

Believe me, I can identify with this one.
