Dear DeAnna,
Have you registered for the upcoming December Reform Matters
conference
call? <http://action.nwlc.org/site/R?i=aDcwoMFCccsF12twGPWfCw>
The call is
on Thursday, December 13 at 3:00 p.m. Eastern.
Last week, two important proposed rules were issued by the
Department of
Health and Human Services that move forward the implementation of
the
Affordable Care Act and ensure women have affordable access to
health care
services they need. The proposed rule for health insurance
market reforms
<http://action.nwlc.org/site/R?i=UYNeueY48HFGpNIfGUkn9A>
provides important
consumer protections including guaranteed issue of health
insurance and fair
health insurance premiums in the individual and small group
markets. These
protections stop will stop plans from denying coverage to women
with
pre-existing conditions and would end the practices of gender
rating and
charging more to people when they become sick. In addition, a
proposed rule
on the essential health benefits
<http://action.nwlc.org/site/R?i=YOtFWECVGM23DzO5TokxcA> was
issued. The
essential health benefits require all new plans in the individual
and small
group market to provide coverage of ten categories, including
maternity and
newborn care.
On our next Reform Matters call, staff from the National Women's
Law Center
will discuss these important regulations and how they impact
women's access
to health care. We will provide detailed analysis of the
regulations,
including areas where we believe the final regulations can be
strengthened.
In addition, we will provide an update on the lame duck Congress
and how
proposals may impact women's access to health care.
We hope you can join us for this informative discussion.

Please note that we've changed the time of our Reform Matters
series to 3:00
pm Eastern. The series will continue to take place on the second
Thursday of
each month. As a reminder, this series is intended for health
care
advocates, and is therefore closed to the media.
We hope you will join us!
