Hello Anjelina, forst welcome to the group. Your asking a variety of
questions, I will only add to what others have said. First, in regard to
your internship, if at all possible, I would try and obtain an internship
that does not require going to a number of locations and if this is not
feasible you would probably go with a staff person especially in the
beginning. I would talk with your advisor and express some of these
concerns with them. Reading materials can be difficult. Based upon
confidentiality issues, it would probably need to be someone from the
agency. Also, during an internship do you have the opportunity to talk with
the facility prior to being assigned? You could screen them as well as they
would screen you. Try and obtain a good match for both of you. good luck

If at possible, I would also suggest grad school if feasible at this time.
Having a masters will open many doors and give you more options. Employment
is another set of issues.

Subject: [acb-hsp] New to the group with questions

Good evening list,
My name is Anjelina and I am new to the list. I am totally blind and
am currently pursuing a BSW degree. Since I will be venturing out into
the field next semester as an intern, I have a few questions.
1. What was your experience at your first placement? What were some of
your fears?
2. If you needed to travel to clients homes how did you accomplish
this requirement?
My placement will most likely be in a more rural setting with limited
public transit, and I’m not sure how to handle the driver issue. Is it
appropriate to hire my own driver? Can an agency deny me employment or
an internship because I do not drive?
3. Has your place of employment provided you a reader, or did you have
to hire one for handwritten information.
Thanks for any feedback and advice.
