Hello: Here is an update on my dissertation progress.
I had to change it from my criminology study to one on blindness first of all.
I am a student of learning and several issues came up with the criminology study:
1.
Because I am the therapist who would also have conducted the research, it brought up too many issues of dual-relationship, confidentiality, risks to clients of misuse, betrayal, etc., and, the clients are protected because they have mental health / substance abuse and illegal behavioral diagnoses. Therefore, they cannot be made to sign informed consents, reveal information, etc. It would just have taken waaaay to long to sift through all of this for a dissertation.
This is absolutely not to say that research cannot be done on this population, or even my study was not a good idea. It is just not going to happen as a student's dissertation, would take far too long, posed far too many issues, too many questions, etc., etc. So, that for a later time, place, ...all that good stuff. <smiles> All is well, I'm not unhappy, and move on to plan B.
I'm not going into full detail on plan B, for probably some obvious reasons, but it will have to do with mediators to employment for people who are blind. Right now, I'm in the literature-collecting phase, week 1 of the dissertation class. And have completed, with all A's except a B in stats (yuck, LOL), my class work for the doctorate in counseling psychology.
Deanna, I have not forgotten about, but still have not sent in, dues for membership. What is the address, again?
