It seems that people in general are either marrying later, or not at
all. Also, public assistance programs like SSI penalize people for being
married. I know many disabled persons who do not marry because they
would lose some or all of their disability income. I once knew a couple
who had to divorce because they had no health insurance, and the wife
became ill and needed surgery, and the only way she could qualify for
Medicaid was to be single.
