[ad-international] Audio Description Project Announcements

We've announced three items of importance this week on the Audio Description
Project website (www.adinternational.org).

 

First was the release of "The Stepfather" as an audio described DVD.

 

Second was the release of "Couple's Retreat" as a described DVD.  Someone
wrote in that it actually mentions DVS (the WGBH Media Access term for
description) on the box.  I don't know if that's a first, but it has been
rare to find acknowledgement of description on the box before. 

 

This makes four audio described DVDs so far this year, and it's hardly even
the middle of February!  2006 was the first year we even had four described
DVDs for the entire year.

 

Our third announcement is that we have just posted the details regarding the
Second Annual Audio Description Project Conference.  Once again it will be
held in conjunction with the ACB's annual conference in Phoenix, Arizona.
The ADP Conference will run from July 12 to 14, and it will be followed by
the ADP Institute for audio describer training on the 15th through 17th.
In addition to the agendas for the Conference and Institute, you will find a
Call for Papers and forms for nominating people for several awards related
to audio description (including the Young Described Film Critic Contest).

 

So . begin thinking about attending the Conference; consider whether or not
you can lead a session at the Conference; and think about who might be
deserving of one of the audio description awards to be given out at the
conference.  And if you know some young people aged 7-18 who have visual
impairments, be sure to let them know about the Young Described Film Critic
Contest.
