This week we announced two new described videos on our website:

. Columbiana

. Straw Dogs

Last week we announced four new videos (including one we missed previously
because we couldn't find it):

. Fright Night

. Kung Fu Panda 2

. Rise of the Planet of the Apes

. 30 Minutes or Less

When we announce a described video, it is because the webmaster (me!) has
personally seen the words DVS or Audio Description on the cover of the DVD
or Blu-ray disc in a local store. (This information is always found under
Languages.) When customers (e.g., you) write in to say that a purchase via
our Amazon link or a Netflix rental has indeed produced a described video,
we add that info for completeness. A special thanks to Maggie and Roj for
helping out like that.

We also note when a video has been released by Universal, because their
rental versions usually do not contain the description track. It used to be
that if a video was an "Unrated" version, there would not be a description
track. Sometimes that is not true anymore, and the Unrated version is the
only one available. But in general, if you have a choice between the
so-called Theatrical release or the Unrated, go with the Theatrical. Also,
it is almost always true that if a DVD has description, any Blu-ray version
has it too. The reverse is occasionally not true (such as the Star Wars
packagings and last year's Avatar).

With 72 described videos released so far this year, we are once again over
the top (last year there were 48, and only 11 before that). Many of us
remember when getting one a quarter was lucky! With the trend toward
downloadable movies onto electronic devices, the next battle is getting the
described versions available. To the best of our knowledge, no one offers
that service today, now that short-lived Zediva has closed its doors for
good. If you know differently, let us know; and if you subscribe to such
services, please write them and pressure them to honor accessibility.

On behalf of Project Director Joel Snyder and myself, we thank you for your
interest in the Audio Description Project, and we offer our best wishes to
you this holiday season! Don't forget to make your Amazon purchases of any
kind year-round by clicking through the link at the bottom of our main page
to help support the site, and let us know of any way we can make the site
more valuable to you.
