IN MEMORIAM

 

Phyllis Mitchell, charter member of Bay State Council of the Blind and one
of its first presidents, passed away this afternoon.  The disability
community had an ideal advocate in Phyllis.  Unlike too many of us, she went
about helping people exercise their civil rights and responsibilities in
order to achieve their equal access without regard for accolades or
recognition.  She took on cases of discrimination one person at a time and
fought long and hard for hundreds of successful outcomes.  Phyllis could be
feisty, but there was no more loyal a friend to many of us.
