VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
Managing Director, ACB Radio
The American Council of the Blind (ACB) is seeking to hire a Managing
Director for ACB Radio, an Internet radio station operated by ACB. The
successful candidate will be responsible for the oversight and daily
operation of all facets of ACB Radio, and for moderating the Internet
mailing lists associated with it. He or she will report directly to the ACB
Executive Director, but will receive input from the ACB President or his/her
designee and the Chairperson of the Board of Publications.
Duties shall include:
1. Create and oversee programming for ACB Radio, including but not
limited to Main Menu;
2. Supervise the Program Director(s) for the several ACB Radio streams
where such Program Director(s) exist;
3. Provide technical support to listeners, and broadcasters or
potential broadcasters, as well as recruit new broadcasters, develop/locate
new content, promote ACB Radio and attract listeners to the ACB Radio
website;
4. Work with developers to improve internally used software;
5. Collaborate with the ACB Executive Director and Development Director
to develop funding for the support of ACB Radio;
6. Serve as an ex-officio (non-voting) member of the ACB Board of
Publications, and provide periodic reports to that body at such intervals
and in such formats as that body may request;
7. Provide to the ACB President and Executive Director, on the 1st day
of each month, written activity logs, which shall include a complete list of
ACB Radio and related management activities undertaken during the previous
month. Such logs may be submitted via e-mail;
8. Attend the ACB annual conference and oversee the streaming of
conference activities, including, but not limited to general sessions,
Friends In Art Showcase, ACB banquet, and any broadcasts of ACB Radio
Interactive from the exhibit hall;
9. Moderate ACB Radio Internet mailing lists, and work closely with
the ACB president, or his/her designee, to ensure consistent implementation
and presentation of list policies;
10. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Demonstrated knowledge of the hardware and software used for Internet
radio broadcasting is essential;
- Demonstrated experience in radio production, including the production of
promotional announcements and a variety of program content;
- Capacity to work with others as part of a team, and when necessary, to
take the lead and make decisions that are in the best interest of ACB Radio;
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing;
- Experience supervising others is desirable;
- Documented experience working with blindness issues is an asset.
