Alison is correct on this point such that if you attempt to clear a sidewalk
and either don't do a good job or you get melting and refreezing, the
homeowner could bbe held responsible although I would hope a reasonable
judge would throw out such a suit and put that responsibility back upon the
municipality. there's actually a bill in the state house that if passed
would absolve homeowners of responsibility if they make a good faith effort
to clear sidewalks.
In my book, the truly best way to handle this is to have municipalities
clear sidewalks, but I'm afraid Alice is correct that too many Americans
would call that socialism. Sort of like healthcare, isn't it?
Take that so-called rugged individualism and toss it in the trash as a
mean-spirited excuse to be a selfish so-and-so.
