Hi all,
As a result of BSCB's advocacy work, it was established some time ago that
the people doing eligibility assessments for people who are legally blind
(total blindness and low vision) will be done by Certified Orientation and
Mobility Specialists (COMS).

Nina, I would agree with you. I, too, have had concerns about the

Hi, Nina and all,
Yes, this is one of the many questions...
One of the things I suggested during the public hearings was to h ave a
human go over what the computer sppits out and correct such things...we've
all had these experiences of sitting in a vehicle that sometimes literally
passes your destination, goes somewhere else, then backtracks and other such
thiings.

Hi All--

Who is going to determine the credentials of the people deciding the new
eligibility for the Ride?

Today when I was going from Boston to Boston I was in the car for over an
hour to go to Somerville and then back tracked to downtown Boston to go to
work. That in my opinion is a waste of gas and time. How can things like
this be remedied to make the T more efficient? This is just a scenario to
add to your list of inefficient use of the planned route of the vechile.

Nina Kagan

and this is supposed to be more cost effective than the current system of
eligibility determinations? Sorry, despite what they are claiming, I just
can't buy it...

The In Person Assessments that will start in July will result in mnay people
who today are unconditionally eleigible to use The Ride will be found to be
conditionally eligible. Other people will be identified as candidates for
travel training on certain trips. The T will be working out how to
administer all this between now and July 1.

Rick, OK just thinking out loud again. In your first example with
the night
blindness. Isn't it true that under the current system a night
blind
paratransit rider could choose to use paratransit even though the
trip
clearly took place during daylight hours? Again isn't there still
the choice
in your second scenario witht the wheelchair? If I am mistaken on
this are
there any procedures in place now to perform checks and balances
on these
scenerios?

Thanks

Frank
