Hi Randy,
How about yes and no. You can control the printer from a web site but when you install the printer, it installs a web style application that allows you to use all the functions a sighted person can perform at the printer it's self.
The more I learn about it the more I like it. I have it networked on two wired computers and one wireless laptop. I can print, copy and scan from all computers. I went in to the advanced settings of Openbook and the twain drivers were listed as a scanner selection and after choosing that scanner, I am able to use Open Book with it also.
Also a guy posted on the TABI list here in Tallahassee that he had found the printer at buy.com for $164.00 with free shipping. When I went to there sight, I couldn't find it there for that price.

Did I understand you to say yesterday, that you can only access options by keystroke from a web page with this printer, or am I reading you incorrectly?

That's usually the way it goes.
To-day I was able to select the scanner in openbook and have it use the scanner. It was a little slower than the usb scanner I have connected directly to my computer but OpenBooked worked fine with it. The cool thing about this is I now have a networked scanner.

I had an HP scanner and replaced it with a combo unit from Brother, because I liked the layout of the unit and it actually has push-buttons, but I unfortunately heard about this one too late. It sounds great. I'm really disappointed that I didn't wait a little longer.
I haven't really played around with the scanning capabilities of my Brother scanner yet.

I got a chance to play around with the scanning capabilities and for the money, this is pretty cool. Out of the box just using defaults with the unit set up on my network I can place a document on the scanner go to my computer, scan it and read it pretty quickly and with out much hassle. Once the document finishes scanning just press alt-tab and you will be in your documents folder and a rename dialog box. by default the document has a document date and number as it's name, just type in the edit box what you want the document to be called tab once to select the file type such as .pdf .txt or rtf tab to save and press enter. you will be placed back in the list of your document folder with the new file highlighted. Just press enter and, there it is. You can also change settings to use MS word and even other ocr applications if you have others on your system.
Here is a sample using the OCR software that came with the unit with out any fine tuning.
