  Hello everybody!
Our White Cane Day walk was a complete success! We walked the crosswalks,
with White Cane's, for 2 hours at the entrance to Coralwood mall, in Cape
Coral.
A few local TV news stations covered the event. Wink TV did a live report
for the noon news.
The Cape Coral police were there and even issued one citation to a
driver,for stopping in the crosswalk.

I really believe this was a huge success, even if drivers were only on
there A game for just a few hours. I think we drove home the point, to pay a
little more attention.

I also spoke with city traffic engineer, Mike Strohecker, for the whole 2
hours. He listened to my many suggestions on this particular intersection.
Mike also came up with a couple of good points too. After the event, Mike
emailed me a report , and copied it to the Lee county department of
transportation, which included our many suggestions for this , and future,
intersections.
I'm going to follow through with the Lee county Department of
transportation. Maybe we will get to see some of these changes for this
intersection.

I am very proud of my chapter!
I'm to the point, in my blindness, that I now have the training and the
confidence to go out and get around and do things again.
At least once a week, I have a "close call" at an intersection, with a
car, mostly turning right. This is why I'm sort of pumped about how we did
today.

OK, I'm getting down off the soapbox now!
The point is, this is one of the many good reasons why this FCB thing
exists.
GET INVOLVED and you might just change a few things for the better!

Gotta go, I'm getting ready for the Vision Awareness Walk a Thon today.

  .... Mike
