R J,
nice to see you on this list. We certainly go back a lot of years on the
Jaws lite list and others.
Frankly, I have found using a small, light weight laptop works best for me.
I use a Sony 4 pounder but see that you can get a net book for only 2 pounds
or so. Then you can use your existing Jaws? license and the notebook is
only $300 to $700?
That said, I have eyed the Pac mate and am pleased to see that they have
dropped the price by $900. That said, you have a pretty hefty maintenance
contract if you want to keep the thing up to date.
So if you are retired, may want to think hard about that. If you are still
working and the Pac mate fills the bill, I would go for it. But the pac
mate has to be sinced through you existing computer to download programs
etc.
Wish I was still working and could avail myself of the Pac mate. Pretty
slick product.
John
P.S. when I was a training contractor for the Florida division of blind
services 5 years ago, I got my hands on the Pac mate and was frustrated with
a lot of limitations. But now, it seems pretty slick.

I used a braille 'n speak 2000, for ten years, and it crapped out on me. I'm
looking into bying a new note taker. $6,379.00 is what humanware wants for
their braille note A pex, but freedom scientific wants 1,495 for the pack
mate with speach only. Any advice as to what I should do? RJ
