Hi Mike,
I have not contacted our legislators for a face to face interview regarding the bill. I have however been in the process of contacting each chapter member strongly encouraging them to call their legislators to ask for support of the bill. With the holiday I haven't completed the calls but today I hope to do so. I've also asked that they do it this week before the end of the year.
Your doing a great job Mike!!
Florence
Hi Debbie,
Thanks for clarifying this.
If and when you decide to put a link on the FCB website for the PSA's, I'm sure we all will give it a go to get our local media to air them.
In regards to HB405/SB1192,
So far this week, I have made one appointment for a telephonic meeting with State Representative Ken Roberson.
Next week, I have another telephonic meeting scheduled with Representative Matt Caldwell and one face to face meeting with State Senator Garrett Richter. One of my members is going in with me to talk to him.
I have also heard from Representative Gary Aubuchon, with his aid saying he would set an appointment for me to come in and talk to him, after the 1st of the year.
I did receive replies from most of the other 8 members of our Lee County Legislation Delegation that I had sent out email requests for meetings.
The rest of these told me they would get in touch with me after the holidays.
When I go in and explain the reasoning to pass this bill, I'm going to ask them which way they will vote. I'll keep a tally on how many yes's, I get!
All of the Legislators I have set up appointments with, I have sent them a copy of the HB405/SB1192 position paper.
So far, my plan seems to be working out very good for me!
To all other Chapters:
I was wondering how many chapters have made appointments to talk to your area Legislators in regards to HB405/SB1192?
If your chapter is going to do this, please reply to this email.
I'm just curious, just to get a sense if we got a shot of getting this thing passed.
If your chapter isn't, the FCB is correct, this is probably the only way we can get this much needed bill passed. It's basically up to all of us right now!
Thanks,....Mike

Subject: [fcb-l] White Cane Law PSA's
Greetings Everyone,
Thank you so much for your continuing interest in the White Cane Law PSA's.
Sila pretty well summarized what I have learned thus far about the current status of PSA's being played on the radio. The FCC no longer mandates broadcast time for PSA's and so it's very difficult to find any station manager willing to give them air time. The other difficulty I have run into is that most stations insist on recording their own versions as they must be timed to the second. I am willing to provide stations the scripts if we can find any interest in airing our PSA's.
Should our Bill pass, I am hopeful that I can get some assistance on airing the PSA's from some key legislators.
Finally, most radio stations are no longer run locally. For the most part, there is no person one can visit to discuss the PSA's. Most radio stations are owned by large companies and the entirety of their aired content is prerecorded, timed to the second and determined by managers far from the local play area.
I have been working very hard to find an avenue for airing these PSA's or at least for submitting the scripts. Please give me a bit more time. If I can't find a way to make a statewide blitz, I'll provide the MP3 recordings as well as the scripts to anyone wishing to have them. .
Thank you again for your interest in this project. Please remember how important it is to ring your Florida legislators regarding HB 405 and SB 1192. Remember that SB stands for Senate Bill and HB stands for House Bill. The bills are identical. The position Paper has been presented on this List. However, if you need it re-sent or need it in another format, please contactSally Benjamin.
Respectfully,
Debbie Grubb
